How to choose a Case and Power source
You can choose any computer case you want, whether a very expensive one for its appearance or the cheapest one for reducing the overall budget.
Another way to reduce the cost is by choosing a Computer Case with a Power Source already equipped as long as it has the necessary power to sustain all the components.
Estimated power consumption of the major computer components:
- Power Supply – from 10W to 60W
- Motherboard – from 15W to 50W
- Processor - 20W to 60W and even 120W (depending on the number of cores and technology)
- RAM Memory - from 10W to 50W (depending on the type: DDR1, DDR2 or DDR3)
- Hard Drive – from 5W (2.5") to 15W (3.5")
- Graphics Card – from 10W (integrated video card) to between 20W and 180W (PCI Express)
- CD/DVD/BLU-Ray - from 5W to 15W
- Sound/Network Card – from 10W to 20W
Make sure you choose a Power Source with enough power and connectors for all the components you wish to install. For high end gaming stations extra case coolers are required.
